Margaret Knott
Margaret Knott is a London-based painter and printmaker whose career spans decades and disciplines. She trained at St. Martin's School of Art in the 1950s, then built a career as a designer in advertising, working at agencies including Ogilvy & Mather and Hans Schleger & Associates. Her work was featured in Designers in Britain. She later studied ceramics at Putney School of Art, where she also taught, and went on to pursue etching.
That dual background of a printmaker and a designer, has had a lasting influence on how she sees her subjects, and her painting method in turn feeds back into her etchings, where she uses aquatint, litho crayon and line to achieve a painterly effect. Her prints and paintings paint the countryside and the Thames, created outdoors whenever possible. She works primarily in gouache and graphite, and her work has been published in Printmaking Today and Artist Magazine. She has exhibited in London, Paris, New York and Singapore, and is represented by Will's Art Warehouse in London.
