Emeka is a South London-based painter of Dominican and Nigerian heritage. As a self-taught artist, he has developed a distinctive figurative practice over the past three years, exploring identity, memory, and culture through acrylic paint. His work translates personal and collective narratives of the African and Caribbean diaspora onto layered, textured canvases, often using a palette knife to create surfaces that draw the viewer in. Light, expression, and texture guide his approach, shaping both the emotional tone and the atmosphere of each piece. His scenes often feel like suspended moments, intimate and familiar yet slightly elusive, encouraging reflection on lived experience and imagination. Emeka’s practice has gained recognition through notable exhibitions, including New Art Exchange Open 2026, The Other Art Fair Sydney 2025 & London 2026, the Barbican Arts Group Trust ArtWorks Open 2025, where he was selected by Black British artists Tam Joseph and Keith Piper, and the Black and Global Majority Art Fair by CastildART in 2025. Through ongoing experimentation, he continues to refine his visual language, producing work that resonates with personal and collective histories while inviting viewers to engage with the stories embedded within each piece.
