Ernesto Romano London based Italian artist exploring identity, perception, and human connection through photography and mixed media. Best known for his X-ray artworks, he uses medical imagery to remove visible markers of status, gender, ethnicity, and social identity, revealing the shared structures beneath the surface.
By transforming clinical images into contemporary art, Romano challenges traditional portraiture and invites viewers to consider what remains when external differences disappear. Transparency, layering, and light are central to his practice, creating works that feel both personal and universal.
Originally trained as an architect in Venice, Romano brings a strong sense of composition and spatial awareness to his work.
In 2024, he was awarded a three-month artist residency at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai.
During his residency in Shanghai, Romano began exploring infrared photography as an extension of his ongoing interest in revealing what lies beyond ordinary perception. Working with light beyond the visible spectrum, he developed a new body of work that examines the hidden dimensions of familiar subjects and environments. Whether through X-ray imagery or infrared photography, Romano’s practice continues to investigate the unseen layers that shape our understanding of the world.
Ernesto's work has has been exhibited extensively in the UK and internationally, and is present in private collections in USA, Europe and Middle East.
