My name is Qi. I come from a Spanish city called Málaga, located on the southern coast of Andalusia. Growing up, I always loved to draw, so I started oil painting classes in my early teens. Most of my early work consisted of representational art, focusing on seascapes and landscapes. I moved to the UK for university, where I completed a BSc in Biomedical Science at the University of Sheffield and an MSc in Precision Medicine at the University of Glasgow. After graduating, I spent 2 years working in a lab based in Oxfordshire. During this time, I was quite disconnected from art, as I focused more on pursuing a career in science. During the summer of 2026, having just moved to London with my partner, I found myself out of work, so I started exploring the artistic side of me again. I have been drawn to painting seascapes, prompting me to create my first collection called ¨Summer in Algarve¨. I wanted this collection to be a continuation of the last seascape I painted before embarking on my scientific career. Getting back into art and teaching myself to paint again has been a humbling experience that has led me down an extremely self-critical path. Painting, which was meant to be something I did to feel like myself, turned into something I kept avoiding. Therefore, more recently, I started a series of paintings called "Bad art", which is where I try to explore my artistic instincts by letting go of perfectionism and focusing more on intentional brushstrokes. My recent pieces allow me to create freely, express my thoughts and emotions on the canvas without needing to spell a word. I'm eager to continue this exploration and keen to connect with people who relate to my art.
