Ufy is a York-based contemporary visual artist from Slovakia, exploring human emotion through surreal and expressive figures. Drawing on a background in psychology, the work prioritises raw emotion over realism, translating inner experiences into visual form to capture both the fragility and strength of being human.
The name Ufy was given to me by my younger sister. When she was little she had struggles with speech development and couldn’t pronounce my name, so she created a new name for me, Ufy. I was a child myself then too, and whenever I’d draw or paint I’d sign myself as Ufy. To my family I’m still Ufy. Born from childhood, connection and creativity, the name Ufy remains a very important part of my identity.
Alongside my artistic practice, I have a Master’s degree in Psychology Research and work as a wellbeing and education practitioner for children and young people with special needs and mental health challenges. My work continually inspires my art, highlighting the resilience of the human spirit and reinforcing my belief in the power of creativity to heal, connect, and give voice to what is often left unspoken.
My art explores mental health, struggle, healing, and the ongoing journey of growth; both personal and collective. While each piece is deeply personal, my intention is to create space for others to see themselves reflected in my work.
By giving shape to emotion through surreal portraiture, I invite you to connect, reflect, and find recognition in the uncanny.
